Lacewood

Now here's a wood I can just stare at for hours. Sometimes nature just throws something at you that makes you stop and take notice. This wood is like that for me.

The Huss & Dalton guitar company have made several guitars from Lacewood and they rave about it's acoustic properties. Luthier John Greven has gone so far as to say "lacewood stands head and shoulders above every other tonewood for back and sides, regardless of body size and top material."

It's one tough bear of a wood to bend so I have to take it slowly. The special grain visually "pops" much better if I work it with hand tools (planes and scrapers) rather than using sand paper, but the extra work is worth it.

Lacewood is not overly expensive, but I usually have to search through a lot of boards to find one with consistent figuring. Because of the raw material cost I must add a small premium to the price of instruments made from this wood.
