Guitars and Mandolins

I first studied guitar building with Bob Mattingly and Jim Long over 25 years ago. Since that time it's always been a dream of mine to build beautiful hand made instruments.

Realizing that I needed to build my skill level before I could sell guitars and mandolins to the public, I decided to start building a "simpler" instrument. The mountain dulcimer.

As you can see from my dulcimer page they didn't stay "simple" for very long.

As so often happens, the realities of life can intrude on dreams. Although I've been building instruments for about 7 years now, my rate of production has been much lower than I'd like because I could never commit my time fully to lutherie.

In 2006, all that will change.

My wife and I have purchased a home in northern California. I'm leaving the computer programming world and following my passion. I'll be teaching music Tuesday through Thursday and building instruments on Monday, Friday, and duiring the weekend. 2006 will be the year that my guitars and mandolins are finaly available to the public.

This new GBguitars web site will be the source for information on all of my instruments. I'll keep current news updated on my blog.

A good friend of mine once told me "Retirement just means you get to do what you love for a living." If that's true, then at 46 years old I'm about to embark on the hardest working year I've ever had.

My first year of retirement.
